Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MTShare

Getting Started

What is MTShare?

MTShare is a free service that creates universal music links. Share a song from any platform and MTShare generates a single link that works for everyone - regardless of which streaming service they use.

How do I create a universal link?

Using the web:

  1. Copy a music link from any streaming platform
  2. Sign in to MTShare (it's free)
  3. Paste your link in the dashboard
  4. Share your universal link anywhere!

Using the apps: tap share in Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube and pick MTShare. Get them on the mobile apps page.

Is MTShare free?

Yes. Creating and sharing universal links is completely free, with no ads and no premium tiers. MTShare is run at cost as a not-for-profit; some outbound store links are affiliate links, which costs you nothing.

Is MTShare an alternative to song.link or Odesli?

Yes. MTShare makes the same kind of universal music link as song.link (Odesli) and SongWhip: paste any music link and get one link that opens on everyone's platform. Since the public Odesli API shut down, MTShare is a free, actively maintained alternative.

On top of that, MTShare converts whole playlists and albums, identifies songs playing around you (MTListen), shows upcoming concerts, and has native iOS and Android apps. Free forever, as a not-for-profit.

Do I need an account?

You need a free account to create links, but anyone can view links without an account.

Supported Platforms

Which platforms are supported?

Paste a link from: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tidal, Qobuz, Bandcamp or SoundCloud.

Every link page shows the song on:

  • Spotify
  • Apple Music
  • YouTube and YouTube Music
  • Amazon Music
  • Deezer
  • Tidal
  • SoundCloud

Bandcamp and Qobuz buttons appear when the link was created from those platforms.

Podcasts & audiobooks: Apple Podcasts and Apple Books, from a Spotify episode or audiobook link.

What if a song isn't available on all platforms?

We search each platform and only show results where we find a match. If a platform doesn't return a result, it won't appear on your link page. Note: Some platforms may show a search link as a fallback when we can't find an exact match.

Can I share albums and playlists?

Yes. Paste any Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer or Tidal album URL, or a public playlist URL, and MTShare creates one universal link with every track matched across platforms. Signed-in users can save a playlist straight into their own Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and more. Only public playlists can be converted.

How It Works

How does MTShare find the same song on different platforms?

We extract metadata (title, artist, album) from your source link, then search each platform's API simultaneously. We use scoring algorithms to find the best match based on title and artist similarity. We also use Last.fm's API to enrich metadata with album art and additional track information when needed.

Do links expire?

No, universal links are permanent as long as the song remains available.

What if MTShare matches the wrong song?

Mismatches can happen with songs that have common names or multiple versions. Report issues to [email protected] and we'll investigate.

Privacy

What data do you collect?

Minimal data: account info, links you create, and aggregated analytics (views, clicks). We never sell your data.

Will you send marketing emails?

Never. We only email for account-related matters.

Features & Roadmap

Is there a mobile app?

Yes, free native apps for iOS and Android. Share directly from Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube with the share sheet, and identify songs playing around you with MTListen (Shazam-powered).

In the apps you can pick the music services you use: they get a star on every song page, and MTShare links from your messages can open straight in your preferred app. On iPhone, with an Apple Music subscription, the song starts playing right away.

Can I see analytics?

Basic analytics (views and clicks) are available in your dashboard.

What's coming next?

  • Browser extensions
  • Detailed analytics
  • Moving your library between platforms
